Form up..

This weekend I got some more filing, sanding, cleaning and then gluing done. My fingers are all torn up, haha.. They are already dry from winter but this pretty much killed them. I put together 20 Tacs, 10 from DV and 10 from AoBR plus the 10 Terminators from both as well. I also got the characters and three bikes done. It was a lot of building. And even with the spray booth and respirator it started working on me. I'm amazed at how bad the glue fumes affect me, my hobby is trying to kill me! Hands and Lungs.. failing..
It was nice to get that part done but was pretty boring since they are just the snap and fit minis. Though I will have to say that the quality of them is awesome. I thought the AoBR were good but these really add a lot more detail. It's pretty cool that they look as good as they do and are put together so easily. Not much mod ability on a whole but still good for the price. The one bad thing is they do have a lot of flash, well the DVs weren't as bad but some of the shoulder pads do have ridges near the symbols that can be a pain to get off. I cleaned them decently and figured that will be good enough as these are just basic minis.
I also went through my bit boxes and start to dig out DA stuffs. I have at least 5 Vets in Robes with all their associated accoutrement's. I can also make 2 more Temies that I'll add some special weapons for the other options I might kit out. Plus I have 3 RW bikes to build, one I was going to use for a Diorama so I'm going to have to figure out how I want to proceed with that.

I'd have to say overall they are coming along nicely. I would have liked to get some painting done but I'm satisfied that I at least got most of them together. I'm still working on getting a list together that I
think I'll run. The Angels have a lot of tough units but wow are they expensive. Right now I'm working on limited funds so I want to make sure I'm going to use what I pick up.

  1. Although the Terminators are considerably better I was disappointed by the DV tactical squad Vs the AoBR squad. Aside from the sergeant [who is amazing] and the plasma guys the actual variety in the DV squad is minimal. Sure the 2 Corvus suits add variety but everyone else has the same armour and bolt guns with only slight changes to the ornamentation. Compare that to the bolt guns with straps and sights in AoBR, the marines with the circular knee pads, straight greeves or the added knee joint.

More importantly because the posing was slightly less dramatic the options to mix the guns up so you could put different guns on different models in a pair meant you could create more variety. Granted the DV models are more dynamic but overall I feel you get less in the actual display.

Which actually is also reflected in the Terminators because once you run one squad of DV termies you're going to struggle to use a second set without those dynamic poses looking awfully odd cloned onto another squad. Of course you can convert them but with the AoBR termies conversion is so much easier because of those limited poses. I'm convinced that with just one new Deathwing box you're going to see a lot of love for AoBR termies and how quick you can add all those extras on the sprue to make them spanky new and different.

  2. I understand where you are coming from but for the price you are getting a lot of minis for cheap (for GW at least). I kinda like the details on them and wasn't really bothered by the Tacs. The gun positions are a bit different but it wasn't a biggy to me. Adding in the beakys and a few other DA details is cool. With the extra DA bits from the DA Vet kit you can DA them up a bunch. I'm going to mix in some Vets and standard Tacs it will give them a more diverse look.

Modeling wise they require a good bit less cleaning. And don't have as much of the odd extra plastic that will stretch from one area to another. Overall I'd say the quality is pretty good for snap and fit.

I'm going to use the Termies as the Command Squad, and the character maybe Belial. I really not liking the new model they came out for him, his legs just don't look right to me. I also hate the standard Termies haha .. they just look so static, especially the Lightning Claw Termies. The mismatch will standout for sure but I ordered a DW Command Squad that I will probably make Knights. Standard Termies will just be standard Termies.

I understand what you are saying but I'd have to say I'm pretty happy with the minis in the set. I'm looking to either trade off the Chaos for the DA or if not I'll probably pick up another set for the Termies and bikes if nothing else. Just don't need the extra books and stuff haha..
